I stood by your bed last night, I came to have a peep.
I could see that you were crying, You found it hard to sleep.
I whined to you softly as you brushed away the tear, “It’s me, I haven’t left you. I’m well, I’m fine, I’m here”.
I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour your tea. You were thinking of the many times, your hand reached down to me.
I was with you at the shops today, Your arms were getting sore. I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more.
I was with you at my grave today, you tend it with such care. I want to reassure you, that I’m not lying there.
I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled with your key, I gently put my paw on you, I smiled and said, “It’s me”
You looked so very tired, and sank down in your chair. I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there.
It’s possible for me to be so near you everyday. I say to you with certainly ,” I never went away”.
You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew … in the stillness of that evening , I was very close to you.
The day is over… smile and watch you yawning, and say “goodnight, God bless, I’ll see you in the morning”
I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see. Be patient, live your journey out … and then come home to be with me.
Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, the pets go to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills, for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who have been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who they have left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your friend finally meet, you cling to each other in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life, but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together
